Looks to me to be about the same - most of the gains are going to be from the smoother, straighter intake path.
Oh, and for the record, yes, an S5 AFM can be oriented in any fashion.

Jerry - S4 cars have only one emissions fitting into the post-MAF intake elbow, while S5 cars have two. IIRC, in the S4 cars, it's the PCV relief alone, while in the S5 cars it's the PCV and charcoal canister return. Check your Haynes vacuum diagrams or your underhood diagram - it's marked there.
