Custom Exhaust Question

Ok, I want to get a Custom exhaust done, and I have priced out all of it, but first, before I get any of it done, what kind of materials can I use for it, would all Aluminized Steel work? Or will I need all Stainless steel, or just a Stainless steel downpipe?

Also, I am sticking with dual muffler's, and my question is, how much of a difference is a straight 3inch exhaust and a 3inch exhaust to a y-pipe that taper's to 2 1/2inch?

And another question about the downpipe, should I buy one from an actual company that makes them, or get this guy to make one, he said he can make it out of two mandrel bent elbows and a piece of 3inch almunized steel(not stainless), does it need to be stainless?

This guy quoted me $930 for an aluminized steel system straight 3inch the whole way, with some stainless steel tips on the almunized muffler's. This is with the downpipe made by him aswell.

Thanks in advance for all the help

wicked, you live in alberta too!, $900 seams too much, should be just about $650 to tell you the truth, my friend got a full system on his jeep and it cost him $430, depending on where you live, i could find a good shop that could custom you a system for a decent price, one guy here got a quote of $520 for a full custom system for his civic....

Ya, I'm boutta do custom exhaust. I just bought a pipe bender, and some tubing. for me, it's going to cost about 300 alltogether with full 3 inch piping. But.. does anybody know if the air pump for the cat can be blocked off or should i just let it run into the air?

99% of exhaust system are made of aluminised mild steel, so yeah, it should work.

I am sticking with dual muffler's, and my question is, how much of a difference is a straight 3inch exhaust and a 3inch exhaust to a y-pipe that taper's to 2 1/2inch?
I assume you mean difference in performance. If the two systems are well-made they should flow as well as each other. Don't listen to anyone who tells you the Y causes heaps of restriction. It doesn't unless it's really poorly made, and two 2.5" pipes can easily outflow a single 3" pipe. The two biggest differences between single and dual muffler systems are cost and noise. Dual systems are obviously cheaper but they will always be quieter.

It does not need to be stainless and it does not need to be off-the-shelf. A downpipe is a pretty simple thing, and is no more difficult to make than any other part of the system. Of course the quality of the end product will depend on the skill and craftsmanship of the fabricator.
