Custom Exhaust Help...

Hi guys, S4 NA

So I'm kinda dying because there is an exhaust leak right under the shifter and the damn middle and upper boots are completely torn...thus my interior smells of gas/exhaust all the time which leads my to believe im running rich. (It's not the PD, although that's gonna get replaced soon anyway).

I have 2 choices:

1. Get a Carbon monoxide detector so i dont die.

2. Have a custom true dual exhaust made.

The problem is i can't weld, don't have the equipment, and don't have a garage.

So I am considering a true dual exhaust (mazdatrix is overpriced) b/c i need more power, and the s/c i a bit much for a newb like me to take on.

So, let's say i buy the RB Race Header ($175.00), two OBX Greddy Evo knockoff mufflers - 2.5" inlet ($110.00both).

I believe that I would need 2.5" exhaust piping throughout.

So my questions are:
I will need 2.5" piping throughout, right?
Are there any other components i need to buy (besides the custom piping of course) ?
How about that o2 sensor? (i'm sorry, I forgot to search about that!)
How much should i expect to pay for the custom fab?
Does anyone know of any shops in the tri-state area that they can recommend (ny, nj, conn)?

By the way, I don't have to worry about the emissions, if that wasn't obvious already. So I don't need any cats.

P.S. Sorry for the redundancy of these types of posts, I did search and did find some great info. Hopefully when im done i can get some pics up and more info up, which should help other noobies like me to not post the same topics over and over again.

You shouldn't use 2.5" piping, that will kill way more power than you will gain. You'll loose all back pressure, and kill any effect that scavenging may have....

You should use at the largest 2" piping. And if you don't have alot of money, I would say just go to Midas, and let them build you a nice (<joking...) crush bent exhuast.

Or you can go with a single, get a racingbeat header/presilencer, and then buy a single cat back from corksport, or one of the ebay S/S ones that sell for like $250.

Here's where I got 2.5", it's from the "Final Exhaust Thread", although now that I think back I think that it was if you are going single.

So for a true dual, would yoj go from each RB Header oulet into a 2" pipe all the way until the muffler.

Thx for the input Cory. You went true dual, right? What was your exact setup?

I did ONCE....

And it didn't give enough back pressure... The power came on at like 4,000, but it pulled like hell!

I used a racing beat road race header, went with 2" into 2 spintech mufflers, and made them dump under the car. It was horrible for the street, because it had no low end power, and was louder than all hell!!!

I would strongly suggest to go single, it's cheaper, easier, quiter, and will offer better low end power (Or I would think it should...)

And if you do go with a truel dual set up, you need to use a racingbeat presilencer for each exhaust runner. Otherwise it will be really loud, and probably won't have enough back pressure, to do any good.

If you search around under my name, for true duel exhuast, you will probably find the thread about the exhuast system I built. Don't use it as a model on what to do!!! Use it as a model on what NOT to do!

as long as they are at the very farest point away from the ports, they should hold up fine.... What kills mufflers is being close to the ports.

thanx for the reply

I will have Bönez turboflow and the standard Y pipe and then the obx as end mufflers, so it sounds like i will do ok.
