Question Creaking brake pedal...

Alrighty this is a weird one. My brake pedal is kinda mushy....but sometimes it is firm. And it creaks. I can hear and feel a creaking in the pedal.

Not sure where it is coming from but its weird. Could this be a master cyl. problem? On my 91 TII

Anybody have anything on this? It sounds like the creaking is coming from the calipers in front. Any ideas?

The creaking is more than likely from the upper pivot on the brake pedal needing lubing. You wouldn't be able to feel a creak from the brake caliper unless the rotors were really bad or the caliper was loose (and even then its more a clunk).

Intermittent brake feel could be a couple of things:
In order of the most common:

air in the system
bulging or worn brake lines
leak in vacum assist for brake booster
bad master cyl
bad brake caliper (but you should see a leak on this one)
bad brake booster

Wankel7 i have the same prob to. It comes from the front calipers I think. If you sit there and push the brake hard and give alittle and keep doing that you hear it click. But i have new rotors and pads.....it also still makes that nasty noise sometimes to. Same prob you have?

It sure sounds like it man. I am not sure what it is doing. The car has sat for a while. I guess I will lube up the pivot points. Maybe there is air in the system. It sounds like it is coming from the calipers. Need to pull the wheels off and have somebody move the brake pedal.

Does you hear the noise regardless of the car running? Mine is either with or with out the car running.

I've got the same problem too but I have learned to live with it. all my lines are fine and I dont lose fluid. I moly greased the calipers and it still makes the noise. Oh well. Hope I never fail Tech.

Sounds like then your heading on this thread was incorrect, its not a creaking brake pedal, its a noisy brake caliper.

Yeah, I agree. I noticed it was coming from the caliper after I made the thread

Yea it deff is. I ahvent had my car in like 3 months though to try anything else. When i get it back I will try to find it again. Doesnt really seem like a problem though they still grab like a rock just that noise. Wankel7 if you sit there and push down then push real hard and keep doing it you then hear it alot right? Just making sure Im thinking the same problem as you

Maybe it is a bushing of some sorts. However, my noise is coming from the calipers. Beats the hell out of me.

Those calipers are hella expensive.

My calipers "creak" as well. Only on the drivers side. I have 4 piston calipers and new rotors/pads. I don't know why they creak. I only hear it when I am at a stop and push the brake pedal down hard. Of course....my steering has started creaking recently too....so who knows.

I had chenaged my brake lines from rubber 1's to Stainless steel 1's and now they creak.I also painted them yellow and bleeded the system with Motul 600 brake fluid.

I wonder if the creaking could be a change in brake fluid spec? from a DOT 3 to a 4?

The feel is a little bit better with the SSlines and motul 600 but next is the pads to be changed to Porterfield RS4's when the current 1's wear a bit.
