Thumbs up The crazyiesy IC setup eva!!!!

I was pondering on how to set up the IC system on my car (when I get around to doing it). And I stubled across the thought of useing the parts of the car that every one else usually takes off. Because they think it is worthless, and just adds weight.

Have you figured out what I'm thinking of yet? Well if not, I am talking about an air to freon IC, I think it would be able to keep the air temp below ambiant, and would save some space, while being more efficent.

I took apart the stock IC box that is under the dask, and the freaking core that is used to cool the air in the car is, damn 6 inches thick, and maybe thicker because I didn't measure it. And I think if the AC system was charged good, and the condesor could disperse the heat efficently enough. I am pretty sure it would be AWSOME.

But just to check, has anyone ever tryed doing this before? And do you guys think that the AC system could cool it below ambiant? Because if it could that would be one of the cheapest and most efficent AC setups ever.

I think they used a setup something like that on lightnings.

running the a/c condenser saps more power than you make in most cases

Damn, is there anyways to make it stay on all the time?

How would it not flow enought air? That is what it was made for from the factory. The only difference would be that it would be in a presureized enviroment. And it would be clean to, it would be after the turbo just like and air to air IC, which means it would also be after the air filter.

running the a/c condenser saps more power than you make in most cases

IF it were to work, then it would be well worth it, because if it were efficent enough to take the air temp below ambient. Then the denser/colder air would make up for the drap the AC compressor would put on the engine. Or at least I think so.

yeah don't they have something like that in the new lightnings? not exactly sure how it works though.

well if the A/C is on when you driving i think you'll have some major power lose

no, you'll lose power in that setup. Cooling the air down that much will not make up for the hp lost to the compressor.
This is the reason why A2A intercoolers are so popular, because they are very simple, lightweight (compared to other setups), and they work.

umm... guys ford has already done this!
regigerated intercooling

i think there's an article at www.autospeed.com
if that doesn't work add ".au"

Well said!
Here is a simple example of what you (the thread starter) describe.
stock setup ~190hp
running the AC -10hp
running intercooler through AC system +5hp
= NET LOSS

The energy must come from someplace, there is no FREE RIDE. hmmm
Intensive studies and training in thermodynamics and fluid flow does pay off.

"The liquid coolant is then available to flood a charge air-to-liquid heat exchanger to provide extra densification of intake air for brief periods of time"

brief periods of time...so what is it like a quick shot of cold air?
