sorry bout all the extra posts this forum pisses me off sometimes

 

hey my FC is totally posessed and crazy... hoping someone can help
its a 88 GXL with 98k miles on it and its acting all wierd
first, it wont idle! i have to use my left foot to brake and keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. also it only makes like half the power it should be, although im not expecting much from a stock n/a motor, i would expect it to be able to get up to 40mph with in 25 seconds(which its doesnt) and when i let the motor get below 1000 rpms, the whole car shakes violently like its about to blow up. I have already put in new spark plugs and had to de-flood ot several times just to get it into this condition, any ideas what the hell is up with this car???

 

how bad does it smoke?

the vibration/flood/idle issues once again would lead me to think blown seal...... (bad)

maybe a clogged cat coudl cause the lack of power up high, lots of things could cause the idle issue....

1st and foremost try to get a compression check done..

 

on start up it smokes more than any car i have ever seen running, but it clears up after it warms up. how can i tell if i have a clogged cat? also where do i go to get a compression tester?
