Crazy intake idea

ok i have an N/A that a put a TII hood on when i got all my body work and paint done. and i was thinking why not try and use the scoop as sort of a ram air intake for the car. at first i thought i would have to fab alot of stuff to do it but then i got to thinking...... why not use the TII intercooler i got lying around? so what yall think? or course i would have to block off one side and open the top of it so that air actually went into it and not just over it. then i would have to find a way to route it back into the airbox or route around the airbox in which case i would have to make some sort of filter for it but all that i think can be done. really though would doing that even help me in any way? i mean the whole thing here. would a ram air intake even do anything to help an N/A rotary engine? comments and feedback would be very helpful.

idk how much performance you would gain but it would be minimal. not worth the fab time if you ask me.

you aren't really RAMMING air in there. the stock snorkel setup is essentially the same thing, you are just moving it to... the top of the engine rather than the front of the radiator.

hrmm.... well i guess i see your point there... i mean the hood scoop is a bigger area to take air from but the car already has a setup like that anyway so there really would not be any performance gains.... oh well it was a cool idea while it lasted lol

the stock inter cooler location is actually a low pressure area. I have an image of the force of air over the car. But I can't find it right now. That's why guys move it to the front.
The major hurdle is the restrictive MAF and throttle body. If you can eliminate those bottlenecks and then fine the right spot for positive pressure to force air in, then at high speeds you might gain a few horses. That requires a new engine management system. Plus, it will be very hard to tune without a wind tunnel.

At WOT, neither of those things is a restriction, as both are wide open. The problem is, you stand to gain very little performance because even at the maximum speed of the car, the stagnation pressure is very low. Furthermore, the change in flowpath that you would have to produce to get the air to the throttlr body from the TMIC location would remove any performance you might gain unless you make a custom manifold that inducts directly from the scoop with no filter.

If you really want to use the scoop, install an oil cooler under it and plug it in serie with the stock one!!!
