Crazy Intake Idea

So here it is, My crazy intake idea, maybe it's already been said but here it is nevertheless.

Take an ordanairy house fan, (the kind you use to keep cool in the summer), and wire it up to your ignition. Place it directly infront of your Cone Filter in your intake section of your car. This way when you start your car you have cold fast traveling air directly aimed at your intake.

Whata you guys think, am i crazy or would it work?

I think you'd need some massive piping from the front of the car to make it work. In that case, you could just make a ram-air or cold-air intake instead. I think the fan thing would just add weight. sorry.

anyone else?

I also thought about doing that but then I punched myself in the face.

lol, very well put Wan, though i won't be taking your advice.

I'm not really conscerned about adding an extra 5 pounds of fan, especially if it could inprove my cars performance. Though I agree I would probably need some mega piping but i could probably rigg that up no problem.

The fan would only provide a benefit at very low speeds (ie: under 10 mph), and even then the benefit would probably be so slim and unnoticeable.

Why do you need colder air and extra power when you're sitting in neutral?
Like the other guy said, set up a Ram Air. It would be cheaper to do, less weight, and actually work well.

It's still pretty irrelevant, that fan isn't going to blow as much air to the intake as the intake's going to be sucking in anyway. It might actually create a restriction of some sort, depending on the fan. And in order to be able to direct a fan blowing from a cold source to the filter itself, you could just run the filter to the cold source and save not only weight, but power on an already weak electrical system, and it'll perform just as good.

you wouldn't need the fan to bring in the cold air at any speed, the speed would bring it in.all you'd need is some tubing.

because that fan would actually restrict the air potential of the car in motion if you were to duct it in a fasion that it would even be functional at a stand still.

Do a search for:
electric supercharger
leafblower
or even the airpump supercharger!

Thank you though for trying to help everyone out!

No sarcasm there! I posted about my "wonderfully original" electric leafblower idea two years ago!

I think he wanted the fan outside the filter just to direct air, not pull it in. The drwing shows it pretty good(i think)which did kick ***

Great idea!

Maybe you could youse your airpump to get the air in there instead of a fan!

There would be too much turbulence, not to mention the extra weight (yea I worry about every little gram of weight) and strain on the electrical system. By the way, what kinda power are you looking to gain (low, mid, high???)

if you're going to put a fan somewhere in your engine bay, put it on the radiator at least...

Nah...Id save the money and mount some fans on my fuel injectors so I could get cooler/denser fuel in the engine.

Hell, maybe I could even route the AC condenser lines on them.

What about mounting them in your exhaust to get better scavenging effect and also cooler/denser exhaust.

Yeah! And denser exhaust will be thicker going through the turbo so it will make more PSI!
