Cpu?

Would resoldering the cold joints on the CPU cause my car not to turn over? What does the CPU control?

CPU ECU And other things ending in U

You know, I had this beeeeeeeeeeeep comeing from underneeth the steering wheel. And so I thought computer. But as it turns out there are many computational devices on deck. So I took out the "cpu", the one the manual says is the CPU. As it turns out, it was the hazard flasher and other things related to signals.

What CPU are you talking about? CPU is Central Processing Unit. But its term seems to be more vague in the automotive world.

Perhaps the ECU? It seems to be the most likely component effecting fuel and engine operation. I don't know what cold soldering that would do, or the intended effect behind it?

Interesting.

Please explain.

Then what would cause my car not to turn over? I just resoldered the idiot lights, logicon, CPU and thats it. Oh and now my security light keeps blinking all the time when the key is out and the doors closed. Did anything I did caused it?

IQW.... I just pulled all the plugs off my CPU and the car starts right up. Don't see how the idiot lights could cause it. The Logicon has some wiring that traces back to a start relay of sorts near the blower motor. Might be you popped a fuse.
When you say it won't crank, well, not crank, does that mean the starter does not turn over. or does that mean that the starter cranks or turns over but the engine will not start.
I'd check the fuses in the left foot well first. Theres one called Engine there. Also check those fuses near the battery under the black cover. By this time its probably already running again.

The engine just turns and turns but it wont start. The starter does turn. You pulled the plugs off your CPU and the car starts right up? Can you tell me which fuse it is because I have no way of knowing because theres no cover. And which fuses ynder the black cover should I check? What does the CPU control?

Ok. The fuse box near your left foot. Looking straight into the fuse box. The third row from the bottom. Second fuse from your left as you look into the fuse box.
That CPU next to the fuse box controls beepers, idiot lights, stop light warning , horn, flasher and STUFF.
The really important one is the ECU under the passengers feet.
Write back in the next half hour and if the fuse was not blown we can try another thing.

Checked the fuse and if its a 15 amp fuse still good. What else should I look for? Oh and I did that 3809 hesitation mod. Splice into a wire from the boost sensor. Could that be the problem?

Yes, should have been a 15amp fuse. Don't really know what a 3809 is but assume its the grounding of the boost sensor. There was a fellow just this last week that grounded the wrong wire and his car would not start. Sooooooooooo go out there and take that plug off the boost sensor and start the car up. I'll wait for another thirty minutes.

Hey man thats was the problem. Thanks a whole lot. Which wire do you ground on the boost sensor?
But now my brake light stays on. What could cause this? A solder point on the idiot light I might of soldered together wrong?

Ain't nothing to fixin these rotary rockets! The wire that should be grounded on a 87, is the brown wire with a black stripe. Most likely the wire that you grounded was the brown wire with the white stripe. Right?????? The 88 models and on, you ground the pure black wire. For some reason they changed from a brown with black stripe to a pure black wire.
I can't answer about the blinking security lite. There is supposed to be a Theft Contro Unit that controls that, somewhere over on the passengers side, I know not where. I have no conventional theft device. All I gotta do is pull a hose off the intake somewhere and let the thief do some trouble shooting of his own to start the car. Also have a fuel cut sw. Seems that lite should blink when you are away from the car with the key out. When I walk throught the parking lots for a car to joy ride in , I avoid those. humor, please.

Not my security light that light went off when I unpluged te boost sensor. Dont ask me why. My brake light stays on. Anymore suggestions on what else I should do to my rotary rocket? Is there a common place to check for vacumn leaks? I think its my hose from my MAS to my turbo is crack. My is having a lean problem under acceleration and only has 9-10 vacumn pressure. Any ideas?

Brake lite might be on due to a low level in the reservior. I am a newbie to the turbo, but sure enough after my rebuilding it, I had a irregular idle. Eventually took the turbo inlet duct, the one that runs b/t the airflow meter and the turbo inlet. That duct had a crack where the clamp goes around the duct. Take it off and examine it . If not there, take a can of starter fluid, and with the engine running, spray at each and every joint where a hose is. Its been said that a lot of leaks are on the two hose that go to the bac. Also do the intercooler inlet and outlet ducts.Yeah, like yu said, take the turbo inlet duct and examine both ends .
