Question Couple vac line Q's

I had a thread about emissions where J-Rat told me a trick to get air to pump into my cat at all times rather than just at cruise speeds. He said:

Also, there is a trick that will cause the ACV to pump air to the the cat at all times, this keeps the oxygen flowing to the cats to speed up the catylist. To do this, you locate the upper 2 vac lines on the ACV (they are right next to each other, and the nipples point up). You remove the foremost vac line (the one closest to the front of the car). Cap it off...

Now my question is, I think I located them but I want to make sure. Here are 2 pictures, first one from further away to show whats around it and then the 2nd of it close up.

This is the only thing I could find after reading J-Rat's description and looking it up in the FSM that I thought it could be. Are those it? Thx for any help.

Those are the ones that he talked about.

And see those two screw in solenoids on the acv? I f you go to the aft one and unscrew it, you will find a small poppet valve with a very tiny spring. If you remove the poppet valve and small spring and reinstall the body of the solenoid, that will give you quite a bit more air to the catalytic converter.

Neither action should be required to pass emissions if the catalytic converter AND the acv are working. Just my opinion.

The cat is a brand new bonez high flow converter so it should be working. I pass cruise but not idle, thats my problem, and i was told that the acv doesnt pump air into the cat during idle...

i already posted twice what ppl think my problem is and long story short, ive done all the checks, all the tune up stuff, and i cant pass idle, so i need some help...

What don't you pass?
HC?
CO?
NOx?

If it's running rich (i.e. high HC), do you have an idle mixture adjust screw?  If you do, crank it all the way to "L".

The airpump is supposed to dump air into the exaust ports at idle, not the catalytic converter. So do this: pull the large approx one inch black hose off the bottom of the air control valve.

Now start and idle the engine fully warmed up. There should not be any air being dumped out that large nipple on the acv where the black hose was connected (the one you just pulled off). There might be a whiff of air coming out, but not a lot.

You have a 86 to 88 car, so you should have a variable resistor that has the little pot with a screw and a L and a R embossed on its housing. Turn it as lean as possible and have the car idle at an acceptable speed (as described above). Write back about what happened with the hose off thing.

Another thing: with the car fully warmed up, pull one at a time those two vacuum hose that you mentioned at the beginning of your thread. Each one should have a vacuum being pulled on the HOSE.

i pass cruise in both areas, in idle, though, i fail CO% and HC pretty badly... ive already adjusted the variable resistor (after the emissions test though) to a lot leaner

How bad is bad?
If we're talking 1000+ on the HC, it's a definitely sign of a dead cat.
If it's slight (just a few hundred over limit) on the HC, then it's a slight mixture adjustment.

Definately shouldnt be a dead cat since i just bought a bonez high flow about 1k miles ago....

Bad as in my idle HC were 1346 and limit is 220

1346 is rather high.
Do you have the air injection pipe hooked up to it?  Does it have a fitting for air injection?

Can you confirm the cat is still in good shape?  A quick and dirty test is to tap the case with a mallet to see if it makes weird crackling noises?

Yes the pipe is hooked up to the split air selenoid valve. I can do the mallet test tomorrow to check but its late and cold here right now, so I dont really feel like going outside to check
