couple steering wheel questions...

I'm looking at getting a new wheel as the leather on my OEM wheel is tearing up.

I'm looking at some quality aftermarket wheels (not the $29 eBay special) and not sure exactly which direction I'm "supposed" to be heading.

Q: what size is stock wheel? 320mm?
Q: do I need a flat wheel or the deep wheel?
Q: does ^ depend on the adaptor?

I'm looking to retain the stock wheel size in the stock location (depth from dash) as the car is a daily and I need use of my blinkers and dont wanna be smashing fingers on the stalks nor do I want the wheel in my chest.

Please help me with these simple questions.

Also, if you have any pics of an aftermarket steering wheel installed in your car and can provide me with information, I would greatly appreciate the info and a pic or two.

I think the stock wheel is somewhere around 380mm(truck size), and wether its flat or dish depends on your style and how far from the wheel you sit, the adaptor should work as long as its for your car and it has the same amount of bolts as the wheel. You should go with a 350mm wheel, slightly smaller, which gives you more legroom.

yes, I would love more legroom, haha. But on the other end of that equation is steering effort. My car has manual steering and is difficult in parking lot manuevers. So I dont want to go much smaller than stock but I absolutely do not want to go larger.

PICS!

if anyone has pics of aftermarket wheels in their car, please post with info.
wheel diameter
what wheel and adaptor
I really wanna see a dished steering wheel installed and how it would look

I feel like an *** for asking, but could you possible take a picture from the side so I can see how deep the dish is?

You'll want some dish. I've got an essentially flat Momo wheel, and without a spacer of some kind it's very close to the turn signal stock. With a quick release in there (~2.5-3") it's right about at the edge of reach for the turn signal. So there's your range to look for. The further away from the dash it is, the more knee room you'll get and the better the view of the gauges will be. The wheel, being smaller (mine's 350mm), will block some of the gauges, so that's an important consideration. I've got a 15.2:1 power rack converted to manual (the manual rack is slower at 20.3:1) and the steering effort is ok. I don't think you'll feel much difference switching from the stock wheel to a 350mm one.

I have the same rack as Black91N/A (thanks for the write up btw) and agree with him that even with the smaller wheel you should not have a problem turning it.

really not a fan of deep deep dishes like the ones on ebay just like the momo style flat, the hub brings it closer to the driver by 2 inches or 3
P.S dont mind the wires hanging its the hurst line lock wire is tearing apart sunny 90% of the year over here
