Could my stock port motor spool this thing?

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=605569

Debating getting this, but was wondering if I'd need to go street port or half bridge to be able to run it well. I know for best power, I'd need the porting, but as for now, could it run without it?

oh hell yes that could spool it. It probably wouldnt be as fast a spool, but 35r's spool pretty quick. I say go for it, bigger turbos are never a bad thing

You'd have no problems spooling it by 3500 in my estimation.

Yeah, actually looks like it has a smaller exhaust housing on it, like the .84. If that's the case (or even if it's the .96 housing) that turbo would work very well on a stock port motor.

I would be running it with the RB turbo back I just won on Ebay. What kind of fuel mods would I need? What about ECU stuff? Would I need to go straight to a Haltech or Megasquirt or something?

There's no question that you'll need to go right to a standalone. The Walbro pump is a good starting point, with the standard 720CC/1600CC injector combination.

Wow, that is one sexified kit. You will be happy with it because you will have room to grow with that turbo when you get a ported motor. As far as EMS is concerned, yes you will need to get one. Of course I always recommend the E6K, but thats just my personal preference. I have installed an E8, and they are fairly reliable too, just a little buggy.

Also, the walbro is the pump to have. It outflows Supra pumps at higher PSIs and I have personally had mine up to 490 already and it shows absolutely NO signs of maxing out. Wonderful pump and unbelievably cheap.

As far as injectors are concerned, if mad silly HP is your goal then the 720/1600 is fine, but be aware that the 1600s at lower HP levels will be on some INCREDIBLY low IDCs. You can tune that out by lowering your base fuel pressure (that requires an aftermarked FPR, something else you should consider).

Your best bet? Get a HP goal in mind and shoot for that. Believe me, that stock motor can do over 400 HP, as you well know, because I did it.

If you need help, dont hesitate to give me a shout.

OK, just got one. Can it go straight on the car now, with it being bone stock, or should it wait for the other stuff?

I've been debating HP goals, and to be honest, I don't know a precise number. I know that I would be willing to give up some power for added reliability, and I don't need to be going full boost all the time.

Yeah, you can install the Walbro when you so choose.
