Exclamation Cosmo 13B-RE into 91 FC--> HELP!

I am going to buy a 13B-RE engine from a Cosmo. the engine has automatic tranny. is there a way to convert that auto tranny to manual? i've been told by some guys that you can use TII tranny but can't you use FD tranny also? and what about the ECU difference from auto to manual tranny?
I guess what i want to know is what all do i need for the swap? and how hard is this swap? any info will be of great joy to me at this point!

All 13B's have the same gearbox bolt pattern. An FC or FD gearbox will bolt to the JC engine with no problem. You have you use the clutch that matches the gearbox used and you'll need to use the auto's counterweight with an aftermarket flywheel.

For more info search for "13B-RE" in the 2nd Gen forum. There's lots of info already posted.

How much can you spend while doing this swap?

As NZ said, all the 7s use the same gearbox pattern. So, you can get an FD tranny, put a FC bell housing on it and you are all in... Also... if you are thinking of doing a 13BRE swap I will tell you that my swap has costed me about $5K so far (engine, FMIC, stage 2 clutch, lightweight flywheel, etc.)

Mine was running with about 4K into the SWAP with the stock Auto tranny. last weekened I put in a Turbo 5spd and aftermarket flywheel, and a good clutch at a cost of about 1K. The good thing about the 13b-re is they are usually in really good shape.

what about as far as reliability? i have heard alot of things about the rotary motor and some say its hard to keep it up, that was a 13B. but i haven't heard anything as far as that goes about the 13B-RE.

Sounds to me like you are just beginning. If so, then I would rethink this swap. To fit the RE into an FC, EVERYTHING must be changed. Custom mounts are required, if the car was not turbo then you must replace the EFI system, custom exhaust, all the associated intercooler piping, fuel upgardes, etc. It's not a direct swap.

I am not trying to discourage you but if you dont know anythign about stock rx7's then why would you try such a drastic swap?

But if you want mroe info check out www.fc3spro.com and look for the engien swap section.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here and say what's been said again. If you're just beginning, an RE swap is probably not the route you want to go. Having said that, if you've done other motor swaps on other vehicles and have dealt with the need to fabricate motor mounts, reroute coolant lines, oil lines, fuel lines, fab new brackets for various things, unwrap & rewrap harnesses, run new wiring, solder connectors, etc. etc. etc. then go for it. It's a cool swap, but you're probably looking at $4k-$5k as has been mentioned (not counting the cost of the car).

If I were you, I'd buy a good condition TII and just enjoy it as is. Then when you're ready for more, slap a single-turbo on it and have a lot more fun.

The link that BklynRX7 was mentioning is: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/SWAP/COSMO/13b-re.html

That has a lot of good info in it and some ideas on rough costs.
