coolant temp. sensor

i heard from someone that the s4 water temp. sensors are alot more accurate than the s5 sensors. Is this true? If so the one on the radiator or the one on the block?

The water temp sender is located to the left of the oil pressure sender on the Block - I believe rear iron. The one on the bottom left of the rad is just a water temp switch for emissions and cold start. The third, non-mentioned, is the water temp sensor for the EFI, located on the rear of the thermostat housing. FC's with electric fans (automatics, and turboII) have a water thermo switch for the fan on the top of the thermostat housing.

So can you run a Haltech E6K and still have the stock water temp gauge work?

Not quite. The sensors are basically the same, but the gauges work quite differently. The S4 temp gauge is linear, so it moves up and down as temp changes. The S5 temp gauge (like pretty much all stock temp gauges from the last 15 or so years) only has three positions; cold, normal and hot (actually too hot). Within the normal temp range (around 170-210degF I believe) the needle won't move from the middle position.

An aftermarket temp gauge is a good idea.
