Uh-oh..... hard starting!

Ok, so the question is:

Can an engine develop low compression by just sitting in storage? I know it sounds dumb, but I got freaked out earlier today when I went to go warm her up a little. ( I start her and let her get hot once a week.) It almost didn't even start! Just cranked and cranked for what seemed like a solid 10seconds before it started to catch, and then finally after a few more seconds she came to life. Could this just be some carbon build-up? Or is it what I am fearing? ATROPHY INDUCED LOW COMPRESSION!!!!??????

Yes. Compression relies on an oil film on the housings. If that film gets washed away/falls to the bottom/evaporates/etc. then the engine will have low compression.

You are washing the film away because you are starting the car and not allowing it to go through a full heat cycle. Stop doing that. Starting the car and letting it idle to "warm up" is about the worst thing you can do when storing a car.

Duly noted. But once I get it rocking again that film should re-develop then yes?
