Coolant System Simplification

Hey guys, I'm looking into converting my TII into full race trim this winter, and one of the tasks at hand is simplifying (removing) most of the cooling system. Looking at the coolant diagrams, it seems like I will run
into no ill effect from removing the heater core in regards to coolant flow (if the heater control is set to full cold, the heater core valve shuts off the flow anyway).

My question is about removing the line that runs into the TB/BAC and the line through the intake that supplies the turbo charger (my turbo has a
"dry" center section). Will this disrupt any flow in the engine and/or cause hot spots? What is the best way of blocking off these press fit barbs on the engine block? I've heard of people removing the barbs and drilling and tapping them with pipe taps, but I don't plan on pulling the engine anytime soon if I can avoid it.

Thanks for your help,
Mike

No problem removing the heater core and blocking off the hoses. However, you might want to keep it for defogging the windows if you race in the rain. Also, it can use as a back up water cooler if you over heat.

Do the throttle body mod and block the coolant hoses output / input off.

Since your turbo isn't water cooled now what are you doing with the hoses? Or is a future thing?

So what type of racing are you going to be doing and what class?

James

I have tried numerous times to block off those outlets under the UIM and have not found a cap that has not broken under the heat, so I just ran a hose from the rear iron to the rear of the water pump

I got hoses looped for the turbo back to the lower side of the water pump. I've done the TB mod, but also have those looped. I eventually want to tap these fittings and place brass pipe fittings into them, but with the exception of the turbo outlet on the lower intake manifold, I don't want to pull the engine to do it.

For the time being I will be running in B Prepared for SCCA soloII, I was running ASP but they tend not to like the stripped out interior If I was serious about competing long term in autocross I would not be stripping the interior, etc...but I eventually plan to either swap to an N/A motor and drivetrain to run ITS or run some unlimited class. I haven't really thought too much about that yet.

Tap them to AN plugs.
If you ever decide to convert back, simply buy some AN nipples to screw in.
Very clean.
