coolant sensor

hi, about half a yr ago that one day when i was driving my car and the "add coolant" light is on and the buzzer keeps going on...very annoying...so i went home add some coolant checked out everythign was fine but then the add coolant light is still on on the noise...

so i cut the coolant sensor wire and grounded it....

yesterday when i was just working on my car (i was bored)
i connected the wires again...and the coolant light comes on and off sometimes when i drive it just today on my way to school...

keep in mind that i just flushed my radiator and refilled coolant 3 days ago...coolant level is good..and i add a little more everytime before i start driving, make sure all bubbles are out...

so i guess the coolant sensor is messed up....anyone else have problem with the sensor??
or u guys think it's my car?? waterpump???
by the way my car had problem with overheating, thermostat and thermostat housing were replaced.

don't have a temp gauge installed..but the stock gauge reads about a little bit less than the middle...which i heard is normal.

replace your radiator cap(s). Sounds like you might have some air in the system. Also, check the wire leading from the level sensor, make sure its not the wire isnt grounding somewhere.

well I don't think it's a grounding problem cause that would turn it off if you say you have to add coolant every morning before you drive then there is proabaly a reason why it's going off.... as in leaking somewehere, or more bubbles.

yeah i think if the wire has is grouded to somewhere, it will turn it off...

and yes i think u guys are right, my car is about 12 yrs ago, and i wouldn't be suprised if there's little leak or a bad radiator cap.
i will try to replace one and see how that goes..other than that, i never see coolant droppings under the car...but oh well..maybe it's the engine..caz there's some smoke coming out from exhuast (bluish white) when around 5 RPM

engine has 100k orginal...i just hope it can last till the day i graduate

Check out your water pump - when it starts to go it will leak from the weep hole in the bottom of the pump housing - you can only see this hole from below the car. The leak can be either under pressure or cold which means you may not see coolant as it may only leak while you drive. The sensor is a pressure switch and the leak can be enough to drop the pressure to where the sensor is activated even though you are not overheating.

Did you get rid of anything such as your a/c or p/s? I have the same problem, but that's because the water pump is underdriven. All I did was cut the sound buzzer, however from time to time the light still comes on even when coolant level is to the top. An easy fix so that my coolant level wouldn't drop during the summer (as it tends to do while idling because of the underdriven waterpump causing the temp to rise) was getting a stronger alternator belt (high performance) from Mazda Trix. This is the step below getting the dual belt pulley of course.
