Coolant seal Idea

I was thiks since one of the biggest killers of rotarys is heat which leads to coolant seal faliure. I was looking at parts for piston engines and thought if they have a metal head gasket which is suppose to seal better and last longer. Why not have some company try to design or research a soft metal compound ring that can be used for cooland seals. please give me feed back ppl

Already been done, Its not cost effective. These seals ended up costing ~$140 from the manufacturer. Ordering 100 lowered the price to ~ 110 each. The market in rotary engines just cant absorb those kind of costs.

a bit of Historical info:

The MFG. I used was also approached by MAZDA in the early 70's about seals, the company made them some seals that worked well, but were also too expensive. I talked with the original engineer on the project.

Out of curiosity what was the out come of the seals? Did you conduct any testing of them?

I have a set in my P-Port. The pressure testing of them was successful. Durability and heat cycle testing has not been completed as of this time. Frankly its not a concern since I have no plans of marketing these actively. It was an interesting expensive experiment.

$140 each? or for all of them?
for all it could be worth the extra..

when someone invents a cheap indestructo apex seal made of Ubertonium then we'll all be set for life.
