coolant problems continued..

symptoms...... Ok when i start the car the "add coolant" buzzer goes on. i let the car warm up for a bit and nothing..... note that the engine was hot and the radiator was not...

i then took the little sensor out of the top of the radiator and was able to add 1/2 gallon to it this way. When the car was first started the buzzer went on then proceeded to go on only at low rpms then eventually went away... "radiator got warm also"

Next thing you know the temp sky rocketed and buzzer came on again.. also the overflow tamk is always full even when the radiator was pretty empty.

so far i have tested the radiator which is flowing freely, replaced the thermostat, and replaced the waterpump.

also what is the little fitting on the bottom right of the radiator "if looking at it from the front bumper down" it looks like maybe a little hose attachez to it "verry small like a vaccum hose" ill take pics if needed

So you are losing coolant somewhere? Do you see any external leaks? If you don't, and you are definitely losing coolant, there is only one place for it to be going...

Do u have air in the lines...cause i had that and the buzzer would go on at random times. Make sure when u fill the over flow container to take out the bleeder valve.

it could be your overflow tank cap, i kept losing coolant because it was spilling out of my overflow hose because the cap was busted and couldnt hold the pressure, replace that cap and it you shouldnt lost coolant anymore

The thing on the bottom right of the Radiator "I believe" is for the cold start system. The thing that makes your rpm's go to 3000 for a few seconds when the car is cold.

Maybe someone could confirm that.

This thing right?

hmm

any idea why it wont take coolant out of the overflow? the cap seems to be in working order. anyone have a pic of thier overlow tank so i can compare.

i dont think i loose any coolant b/c it all goes to the overflow tank.. just 1 time and it was shooting out of tha overflow when the car got a bit too hot.

i drove the car to work yesterday and the buzzer went away after 5 min and stayed off. no over heating or anything. im guessing that maybe the thermostat from the parts store is no good? maybe it needs 1 with lower temp?

this is the last problem with the car that needs to be fixed... it is running good and accelerates great finally!!

ohh

yes it is that thing NA_VersionFC3S

also... i cannot add coolant from the cap on the thermostat housing. It fills up but doesnt go down. like there is air in there. that is why i had to add it to the sensor hole.

Burp the system

Get rid of the parts store therm-o-crap and get a mazda one. General consensus is that the parts store therms are junk.

Get a new cap, or 2 if your car needs 2, while you are there as well.

Then fill up the rad. I usually tap it a bunch while filling it to fill it. Search for "radiator" or something and there will be a bunch of posts about flushin and fillin.

A vacumn is created when the system cools and contracts. If you have air in the system or a coolant leak you will not draw material back out of the overflow tank.
