Coolant nipple on Short block

I have 3 questions (yes i searched) about the Heater core removal. When it's removed, what do I use to plug up the coolant nipple on the radiator and on the block? Just a Rubber grommet or what?
Would it fail? If so, would there be any aftermarket rad that doesn't have that nipple for the heater?
