Unhappy Coolant leak..

My idle always seems to be at 2000 rpm, and if not, its doin that jump from 1800 to 1300 rpm, then back up, OR its idling normal.
Whats worrying me is that a while ago when i took my tranny it to get seals fixed, they said i have a leak somewhere in my coolant line.
1) is the coolant resevoir supposed to lose coolant so soon? (about 3 months)
2) temp gauge on my engine seems to be fine. (1/2 way). when engine is cold, i will only get the 2000 rpm. when it warms up it gives me the stutters and random 750 idle.

If there is a leak in the coolant, then my engine is running w/ either low, or no coolant =(. exactly how bad is this for your engine anyway on a short term scale. Im thinking after going through different informative search posts that if the coolant IS leaking, that there is little going through the thermowax causing rough idle (surges of coolant?) Im thinking since it revs high that the engine may be thinking its running cold all the time. If its just the TPS or the BAC, then i'll get by not fixin it till someone shows me how to do it correctly without messing up my idle.

I had the hose from the top of the radiator to the engine (left side looking at engine bay from front) replaced less than a few months ago, so its not that.

i checked less than a few months ago the coolant test where you have the engine cold, and turn it on, to see if the exhaust gases cause pressure and spit out coolant. when i startd the engine, the coolant was sucked in.

i dun wanna blow my engine or overheat.. i dont notice any coolant puddles under my car when pull out to come to school every morning or after school.

Thanks for any info..
Jeff

Do a pressure test on the system. Check all the coolant hoses and "cringe" inside the cumbustion chamber. (water seals)

Don't ever drive your 7 with low coolant unless you feel the urge to rebuild your engine.

im takin my car in today for oil change (not allowed to do it at home...too messy so mom pays for it) and im takin it to a radiator shop to do so becuase of the honest mechanic there. Should i have him do a 'quick' check on it? when i get out of school i'll open the radiator cap and look at the level b4 driving.
