ok i did some searching on this and i really couldnt find what i needed. im dripping coolant from the top rad hose that goes into the water pump. its dripping from where the hose connects to the metal. is that the weephole?

No, the weephole is on the bottom of the pump, hard to see with it on the car...

Does your " bad connection" start leaking as soon as you start the car cold? Or does it just leak when she's warm (thermostat open)?

 

it starts as soons as i start the car. after a bit of driving the coolant was being thrown onto intake piping. my efan is that cuplrit. but the coolant seems to be eating it so i need this fixed soon.

 

Drain coolant, replace hose? Or clamp down the clamp tighter (add a worm gear clamp if needed).

what is a worm gear clamp? so its just a leaky hose? not a blown water pump or anything like that.

 

bump anymore ideas before i head off to the parts store and pick up a new hose.

 

If it's leaking as soon as you start the car, it's probably the water pump. Is there a "streak" of stains on the front cover below the pump?

Unless your thermostat's stuck open, there should be no pressure in that top hose when you first start the car.

Feel around below the pump with your hand, feel anything wet?

It's not hard to change...

 

if my pump was broken would it cause to overheat? i havent been having overheating probs

No, the "weep hole" is a good "safety feature" that tells you when the internal seals are fixing to crap themselves. The pump will still function for a little while, but if the seals totally let go, THEN you will have some major problems.

I ran mine another couple of weeks with it leaking to arrange parts & some time to replace it. It had a "calibrated" leak for a while (i.e. 1/2 a quart leak every 100 miles), but then REALLY started pissing, so I knew it was time to get that sucker changed.

Water pumps can be considered "wear items" on our cars, that's just the way it is...

 

right, actually, water pumps have bene wear items on most if not all cars since. well. . . . I dont want to date myself.

Just start it up, run it and look for where the water is comming from. I dont believe its your hose looking at the spatter.

 

just checked again, 1st thing to drip was top hose. let it run for a couple of minutes. felt around water pump no feeling of wetness.

simple enough, let the car cool down. drain off some coolant so you dont make a mess and pull the hose.

One of three things is happening -
need a hose - simple to do
neck where hose attaches is corroded - simple as well, take hose off clean it up and reinstall with new clamp
neck it self has a crack - not as simple, if this is true and you decide to replace tstat - USE A MAZDA ONE ONLY.

update. coolant prob fixed. if anyone out their is leaking between the hose and the water inlet replace the hose. thank you again.

 

that would be the logical conclusion.

its leaking b/c your overheating is causing water pressure to increase. once the hose is replaced, and the car is COLD. start her up and remove the rad cap, see if coolant is surging. it should be glassy smooth. if coolant gushes out, you have a blown coolant seal in the motor and need a rebuild soon. also if the coolant smells like gasoline, same deal.
