coolant buzzer problem

i have an 86 fc and i was wondering how hot the temp gauge is supposed to read. my add coolant buzzer comes on and stays on till it is warm and then shuts off only if u rev the engine. but my car dosent get really hot according to the gauge. could it be the wires to the radiator or to the sensor? if anyone could help me if u could let me know that would be greatly appreciated.

Normally 1/8th to 1/4th up on the gauge.

Heres a dumb question. Have you tried to add fluid? I have a slow leak and the buzzer can be going off constantly and the car won't run hot, b/c it doesn't take much coolant loss to trigger the buzzer.

Have you bled the radiator? there should be an air bleed screw on the top left side of the radiator. Loosen this screw and fill the rad until fluid comes out. then tighten the screw and top off. When there is enough fluid in the radiator the fluid level switch grounds and you get no buzzer. If there is not enough fluid the switch is open and the buzzer goes off. This is the way I understand it at least.

check your thermostat elbow and radiator for cracks.............make sure your hoses are on tight and that they're not cracked or stiff.......if you're adding coolant everyday then you have a bad leak.....if you're not adding coolant you're a dumbass and should do so immediately.

Does your car spew white smoke when you start it every morning? white smoke is a sign of blown coolant seals.....have you done a coolant system pressure check? what have you checked on your car????? help us help you....we need details and what you've eliminated as a problem.

when you say it's full, do you mean the level doesn't change (or shows full) in the reservoir? I have the same problem but didn't think it was a coolant leak because of the level in the overflow reservoir. It wasn't until I took the actual radiator cap off that I saw it was low. By this I mean that I was able to add about 8-10 oz. of antifreeze to the radiator. You might try it, it fixed my buzzer issue. Still have to deal with the coolant leak though. I guess it's a good time to start playing the lottery.
