So with the car cold. During cranking with the upper radiator cap off (the one on the water filler neck on the engine) the coolant fountains out. im not talking like a little wake over the top.. its gushing. Bad coolant seal?

sorry buddy. I'm leaning towards yes. There's really nothing else that can cause that effect but a popped seal

yup, either a coolant seal, or corroded intake housing

sounds like it could be...Do you have a pressure tester for the coolant system? Try pressurizing it and see what you get. Is it smoking bad out the exhaust? Overheating at all? Loosing coolant?

How long has it been sitting? Have you ever seen this engine run? Pull the plugs are see if they are wet from coolant.

no idea on how long its been sitting. the prior owner said he never got it to ran before selling it. i originally thought it could just be the water pump pushing out air in the system but thats not likely for the amount of "activity" coming out of the water neck. its most definitely a bad coolant seal. smells terribly of burning coolant when trying to start it
