Convince me to sawp to manual........
I definitely need to swap, the auto tranny sucks so bad its rediculous. But now (without saying "search" and "theres a for sale section") I would just like some opinion on n/a vs turbo tranny, s4 vs s5, etc. etc. Its not a strait forward question, But basically I would like to hear opinions on whether or not its worth it with my car specifically, and anyones experiences with a swap. Did you feel a difference? Car year and mods are in my sig, its got around 77,500 miles on it (dont feel like checking exact number) Hope that helps you guys help me. All positive and helpful/informitave statements appreciated.

If you have an N/A, just swap in the n/a tranny. You won't need to go the extra mile for a Turbo tranny since you aren't dealing with that much power, and the N/A tranny is just fine. I'm not sure if the auto uses the same driveshaft as a n/a manual, but that'd be one less thing to replace if you went n/a. Turbo uses a different driveshaft than an N/A, so you'd have to find one of those.
If it were me, i'd stick with the S5 n/a tranny. I would imagine it would be a much simpler install.

autos are for soccer moms and people that had their right arm amputated. it just gives you an excuse to be a bad driver. i.e. talk on the cell phone, fiddle around with stuff in the pass. floorboard, eat fast food, bitch slap your screaming kid in the back seat etc etc..

plus on most cars its just plain faster and more control. usually about 1 second quicker in the 0-60 and about 2 seconds quicker in the 1/4 miles. and its more fun. plus nobody will call you a ***** anymore.

I think that swap is only appropriate for the vert. My vert was manual so when I swapped it to turbo - manual was the way to go...
but a TURBO AUTO VERT? Thats the best of THREE worlds!
You should definitely do the swap. N/A's are dogs with an auto. Also switch rear ends.
True, but then why did you link to the "poor man's" swap write-up?
I'll give kudos to kevin for listing everything you need and how to do it all, but the c-channel method is not the way to go IMO. That method eliminates all of the original flexible trans mounts and puts the stress on something that was never designed to take it.
At the least, you need adapter brackets like the main write-up in the archives describes. However, these act as a lever and put alot of stress on sheet metal around the forward bolt holes in the mounting points on the body of the car.
^Recently, I had to weld a crack in the sheet metal from this on my car.
The best way to do the swap is to weld in the mounting points from a manual trans car of the same series as the transmission that you are putting in.

Seriously, it's a lot of work, and if you are asking us to encourage you. then you probably are not up to the task.
FC's are pretty cheap. Buy a 5-speed car and swap over your mod parts, then sell the auto car on ebay. It is worthless on this board.
I sent you a PM with the parts that I have you could use to do the swap. It is fairly involved doing the swap but if you do it and have everything torn apart then you would be able to clean behind the dash and get all that dust out of there
Or...put in a shift kit (good luck finding one for the jatco tranny) and a 4.30 lsd.
The reason? Maybe to prove a point that an automatic car does not have to be a total slug and still be a nice daily driver. That being said, an automatic would
never match the "fun-factor" of a 5-speed.
