Converting S5 Coupe to a 2+2

I want to put in a rear seat on one side of my 91 NA. Is it just a matter of removing one of the storage bins and putting a seat in?

From what info I can find, its just plug and play. Remove bins and install the rear seats. I've also found alot of debate if rears are even a good and usable idea. I think theres 2 sets on ebay right now, grey and red.

I just went to my local recycling yard for some moldings and found a set of rear seats in my color. Talk about luck... Some of the hardware is missing (retractable seat belt both sides and one latching mechanism) I guess I got sloppy seconds on this find but I know have set of rear seats. Just need to find the missing parts online (which as been a exhausting feat today).

If anyone knows of a good used parts site, please send it my way.

Not quite.
You'll also have to unbolt/remove the fiberglass bin support structure, which holds both bins...so having one bin and one seat ain't gonna happen (the seat base- and "seat" is used here in it's most liberal definition- is also one piece).

The OEM rear seats were never more than a cynical attempt to bypass tough (and expensive) insurance regs- a four seater is cheaper to insure than a two place car.
I don't think anyone ever expected them to be used by a human- at least no human not employed by Cirque de Soliel.

Hey! Ive been able to use my rear seats and im 6'1". And I didnt have the seat all the way to the front either cause someone was sitting there.

But If you just want one seat you will definitely be doing some cutting.

You're not going to get just one seat + one bin. It's all or nothing.

I would keep your bins. My car came with rear seats. They were completely worthless so I scrapped them long ago.

children. thats all they're good for, you can drive your car around town with the family. it seems like there is more storage area with the seats though...slightly. btw, the box mine came in with all hardware and seat belts was only 20lbs so you wouldn't be adding too much weight either if you care about that sort of thing. I guess a race car wouldn't need rear seats though huh?lol
