converting Dual exhaust to a single

alright so my 7 is an 86' s4 and when i got the car, it has two Apexi N1's on each side. i've had the car for three months, but two of these just looks.....awkward. makes it look rice. so im thinking of converting it to a single exhaust. what would i need to consider before getting it done? heres a pic

I think you'll find most 2nd Gen owners prefer the dual exhaust. I do have to admit that I dislike the way yours looks however. I think it might be having both exhausts pointed out slightly instead of straight back but that is pure opinion. =)

Just remember that it's going to be twice as loud if you go single.

For an NA, a single 2.5" pipe works fine but you need to use a high quality (ie. not N1) muffler to keep it from sounding horrid. I hate to say it, but every single muffler NA RX-7 I have ever heard has sounded terrible and is ridiculously loud. Mazda originally used two mufflers to help keep the sound down while keeping the flow up.

If you do go single, make sure that there is at least one resonator in the exhaust. One cat and one resonator should make it tolerable. If you don't have a cat, then two resonators and a muffler should do it.

I've never liked the looks of a single exhaust on a car that has cutouts for 2. I would replace the N1's though. I have no idea why anyone anywhere uses those pieces of junk. Duals can look quite nice.

the only other offering ive seen for a dual is racing beat, but i have a racing beat CBE on my p5, and dont wish to have that same style exhaust on my 7.

im thinking about dropping some coin on some quality greddy mufflers...

Had I known about the Fujitsubo before my JIC twin bullet I would have gotten it instead, but the upside is the JIC I have is about 350 more dollars now than it was when I got it.

They are made well, and they sound pretty good with turbocharged engines. I think the 115mm tip is too big for an NA 13B engine.

Are they quiet? I have a mindtrain - Borla XR1 - Racing Beat system and its a bit too loud for my tastes. I don't really want to hack up the racing beat y pipe to put it presilencers though.

it looks like the tips on those mufflers stick out too far on the current exhaust. I would say put up for a trade on a single output exhaust i am sure somebody would do it near you. If you were on the other side of the country i would be in for a trade.

imo, single looks way more rice than dual. But those do look kinda awkward sticking out so far. If it were me I would just take it to an exhaust shop and have them chop the pipes a bit shorter to tuck the mufflers back. But I'm cheap.

I paid nearly 1g a few years back from a great member out of SF. I believe he was the one that imported it.
I had money to blow back then, glad I did it. Uber sexy visually and sounds amazing.

I have an hks single exhaust. i run cat plus a presilencer with a 4" tip on the muffler. I think it looks great and its pretty quite under 3500rpms. i paid 500 for mine. the only proplem is i keep breaking the rudder hangers on it. so it raddles from time to time

Its kind-of hard to describe the comparison, with the small pre-y-pipe resonator coupled with the two post y-pipe resonators, the Fuji sounds very smooth with a LOT of the higher frequencies eliminated but it still sounds more pronounced compared to the RB system.
