Convertible motor manual screws?

Anybody try to turn the phillips screws through the holes? I see the holes but don't see the screws on my 88 vert.

have you stuck a screwdriver in there and tried?
Looked with a flashlight?
Book says to just stick a screwdriver in the hole and turn.
