not to mention the unfused alternator wire draping over every ******* thing.

Based on what I see it wasn't just cost that made those convertibles rare. Somehow I'll sleep OK tonight knowing it's even rarer.

Why would anyone just throw an alternator charge wire over the top of everything like that? That's very sloppy workmanship and a fire hazard.
Not to mention an exposed battery terminal pointing at the intercooler pipe, less than an inch away from it...
That's got fire danger written all over it, I'm sorry to say.
The factory Clarion stereo amp is located on the passengers side of the car and some people have experienced it randomly overheating and catching alight, setting fire to the passengers side of the car. That may explain a few things too.

My first FD died in a fire. It's been 17 years since that happened and even today I still get anxiety after seeing a picture like this. My worst nightmare...

Sad to see. Unique. It was listed on the various car selling sites for a long time. I thought it was interesting, but not something I'd own. Hate to think about how much it must have cost to convert it.

My Hemi powered Chrysler got burnt as bad as those pictures in an engine bay fire.
All for the want of me not installing twenty cents worth of battery cable insulation. That's all it takes. Nearly paid the price with my life, as the electric fuel pump failed to shut down and kept pumping fuel into the engine bay when a burning wire re-energized it.
Seriously, if your engine bays look like that pic, go outside now and put some insulation around the battery terminals and wiring.
FD owners should be extra vigilant of fires.
Coolant boils on top of the engine and the boiled down gooey mess is flammable once the water boils out of it.
FPR leaks on the fuel rail and leaks fuel.
Poorly thought out/installed battery placement and cables

I actually went and looked at that car in June '14 and the engine bay was bone stock. The paint had fine cracks all over the areas where the body contouring had been done, the filler was giving up the ghost. It also had floor rust under and around the seat frames. I had money in hand, but turned around and walked away when I saw that it was going to take some major work if I was going to keep it.
I actually already have one of these that I have stripped down to restore, it has the same body problems with the filler cracking. I decided I didn't need another restore project.
