Control Arms Question

I have trying to unattach the trailing control arms from the rear brake set up and I thought that all that was necessary to pull them apart was to unbolt the 3 bolts holding the control arm to the back of the disc. But I cant get the long bolt out because the aluminum shroud around the disc is in the way and I dont really wanna damage it. But is it normal to have to unbolt some of the other screws in order to get the arms off?

Are you talking about the long bolt at the lower rear portion of the aluminum piece? If so, at least on a 5 lug suspension, you can unbolt the 4 bolts for the dust shield and just pull it outward away from the bolt you're trying to access.

I'm out of town, and don't have a car or manual to look at, but it should be fairly straight forward.

Edit: I was assumming you'd removed the disc. If not, you probably need to. Remove the lower bolt from the caliper assembly, and swing the caliper up clear of the disc. Then remove the two phillips head screws holding on the disc.
