Comrpession check...just confirming...

Three even pulses on both rotors between 40 and 45psi. Solid 100~105psi with the valve closed on the trailing side on both rotors. This is good, right? IIRC the spec was 85psi.

1991 N/A

It's got a HELLACIOUS oil leak, though...like in the time I let it idle in the drive way it leaked a 6~8" puddle from the the plastic shroud.

The interior is pretty crappy. Dash is peeling (this is the FIRST FC I've seen with a cracked dash). Driver's seat is buggered. Carpet is pretty nice, though. Front pass. fender is cratered up by the headlight and the mirror is broken on that side. Car handled nicely, and accelerated great...I really miss driving my RX-7 around. Got him down to $900 (only considering it because the motor was rebuilt <5000 miles ago and comp test supports that). Put half down...going to investigate that leak to see just how much I'll be into the car if I keep going before I put the rest up.

40-45 PSI is bad... You should be able to get 90+ even with the release valve open on the compression checker.

Make sure to check the FSM for proper compression checking procedure. Cranking speed should be 250rpm for proper check I believe.

You're not going to get even 90psi bounces. There's over 100psi of compression on both rotors.

edit...well wait, I wrote that wrong in the first post. I didn't remove the valve from the gauge...I held the release open. I was just checking that there were three even pulses...which there were.

Well, put my deposit down and started tearing the front apart to see if I could find the oil leak. I pulled the fan and shroud. The lower plastic, the whole front of the motor, sway bar, steering rack, and such were all covered in caked oil and grease. I hosed as much off as I could but need to go drive the car around tomorrow to see if I can find any fresh oil. I could find any fresh oil anywhere on the motor but there was just too much debris. She seems to idle and run fine. I thought I was going to die on the way home, though, because the car shuddered horribly above 50mph. Damn flat spots on dry-rotted tires.

It's pretty crappy, though...despite the nasty driver's seat, cracked and damaged dash, messed up front fender and bumper, nasty paint, and malfunctioning dash plus whatever else I haven't found yet...I kind of want to repair it and make it my driver. It'll be too hard to go from the convenience of a sedan to a coupe again, though...especially a small coupe...but she's such a light, happy, nimble, quick coupe...

My daily driver is a 2002 Saturn l100... To go from the rex to a saturn is so strange... But the 7 is almost natural to me, I love it.

nah it wouldn't be strange...I loved my RX-7's so much...even though they are plagued with issues. I can already feel my heart tugging at this one. I love my BMW, though...for so many different reasons. Really, I would keep both, but my wife would kill me. I would have to choose between the RX and my GS750...and I really don't think I could part ways with my bike.

The whole idea was to pull the RX motor, turbocharge it, and put it in my BMW...best of both worlds...but the BMW will never be an RX lol.

Well...I waited for the engine bay to dry up a bit and took her for a spin. After getting back there was oil along the front of the oil pan lip, draining down from the front cover crank seal, and above. Also lots of oil running down along the spark plug side of the front cover. I think it's a leaking front cover gasket...will investigate more tomorrow.

cool. I did the same thing last week. I bought an s4 with ~250 miles on fresh rebuild with bad vibration. The car was ghetto fabulous and vibrated like hell. The clutch sticking to the floor is what killed the guy and he sold it for $650.

I have since changed the full body to s5 and will be painting it soon as well as cleaned the interior. The vibration is nothing but the motor mounts shot. I got a good deal too. I am also falling in love with it and will stop driving my 08 Aura and drive the rex instead.

It's a crappy vid...but there's a tremendous amount of oil blowing out the engine from somewhere behind the air pump or something. That's on the exhaust side, behind the OMP. Doesn't leak at idle, but as soon as pressure builds she starts blowing out. Tomorrow I'm going to pull the air pump off and try again.

Okay I got another vid...a slightly better crappy one...

http://kaleesphotography.com/photoar...f/rx7/run2.mpg

That's from behind the water pump. Isn't the water pump above the front cover? What's up there that could be leaking oil like this? I thought for a bit that it might be an oil injector but there's no way the OMB pushes that much oil. You can't tell from the vids just how much oil there is coming out.

Any suggestions appreciated!

bah...found the leak. It's at the top of the front cover, under the water pump. There's chunks of the gasket sticking out of the seal. Blows a nasty mess out under throttle...it's fun. I didn't really need a shower before I found it...

One thing you neeed to test compression from the leading plugs NOT the trailing
