Question Computer Controls/Electrical

Got a question for all you guys. I have the opportunity to buy a 86 13A Rx7 with 20k on a rebuild and a new clutch. Only thing is the computer is out and the car won't start, at least this is what the guy said that I could by the car from for about 400-500 bucks. The body isn't bad and the interior is complete with no broken glass. I love rx-7, but I don't want to find out this computer being out costs me tons. Thanks for your help.

I'm assuming they mean the ECU? What caused the ECU to die? You can buy a used one for like $50-100 at most, but it depends on what killed the original in the first place.

I got a used ECU you can have for cheap. If its just that let me know.

4-500 is ok. CHeck it out all around see if it has rust or missing/broken parts and such. But thats still a good deal.

Yeah, I would only think it could be the ECU. Would a busted ECU keep it from starting? Cause from sitting for a bit, I dunno if it would start just from the battery sitting for awhile. Would the ECU be hard for me to put it in? - thanks

ECU has 3 plugs. Its simple really. BTW I PM'ed you. PM me with what you think.

Yes if your ECU is toast you would probably not get very far if it started at all.

ALos he said something about how the ECU was busted after they tried to jump it.... What other problems could come from this? Does that make sense?

Well, if they crossed the wires on jumping they could've fried the ECU and a number of other things, does it even turn over?

Yeah the main fuse might have gotten smoked crossing the neg. and pos. wires. I had this happen to me once.

Check all the fuses, and get a new battery.

Even with no ECU and bad engine, 4-500 for a good interior and shell isn't bad. Assuming you're willing to put some time in, could be a good investment/learning experience.

Yeah, i'm still thinking about getting it, I love my Sevens. What would be things that could have happened otherwise? Blown fuses, ECU, battery......anything else down the line that could be bad and better yet, very costly?
