Compressor surge?

I redid my intercooler piping and reloaced my bov from by the TB to right after the turbo outlet (better fittament) and I dont get the normal "woosh" sound when I shift, its really hard to explain the sound i have now. I remember hearing it a few times on those best motoring vids (I know it doesnt help much haha). its a higher pitched sound and it varies in tone. If anybody has a sound clip of compressor surge sound that would help alot, going to go out tommorrow morning and make sure its all hooked up right. Thanks!

It's an interesting sound - the rush of pressure release along with the whistling scream of the compressor.

Why don't you tell us exactly what you did instead of keeping us in the dark???

i have a similar problem. sounds like a pigeon, but it is happening while my BOV is releasing. Only noticed it when i changed the TID though.

You might have to play with the preload on yourr BOV to get it right

By "turkey' you mean the sound "warbles" as it blows off.. kinda like

Pshweepshweepshwee......

If so.... thats compressor surge... your BOV may not be operating propely and the noise is cause by the charged air "bouncing" back into the compressor as the air in the pipes oscillates and tries to come out the intake of the compressor.

The first time i heard this was in the "fast and the furious" and i thought that was really cool. Well, the next time i heard it, was on my buddies 450 HP third gen with an Apex-i doul chamber BOV. Again i thought it was really cool, until i noticed that when it made the sound... the BOV wasn't opening!!!!!!! After we got the BOV cleaned and the vac lines hooked up right, it opens and it just makes a lound Pweeeeeeeeeesh. No oscillation in the sound.

i later saw a website bashing TFATF for a whole buttload of stuff including the sound guys pulling the vac line of a BOV because the compressor surge sounded cooler than the normal BOV sound. And also Vin Diesel telling the cop that he wasn't souble clutching like he should..... I've not had to double clutch anything since i quite driving concrete trucks!!

Make sure your BOV is opening.

While on this subject, Ive noticed this sound alot on my G/Fs '95 Talon TSI. I installed a Greddy Type-S BOV, and adjusted it so that it was just tight enough to not leak at idle. When I let off the gas at full boost, I get the normal "pssshheeeeww.." sound of the BOV. but say I am only 1/2 throttle, only boosting 5-6 PSI, and let off, the BOV flutters (the "pigeon sound, of you will.. ). Is this normal, or is something out of adjustment?

not adjusted right

i wouldnt let a compressor surge over a couple pounds (1-2) or else you are on the fast track to turbo damage

ok thanks guys.. its probably compressor surge then... gotta take bov off and clean it I guess probably try adjustment first, but it was working before I moved it from near throttle body to right after turbo outlet? Also could you guys suggust a good way to go about cleaning it? Thanks!

Maybe if you have time tomorrow(Saturday) you can help me with my car. haha, it has a weird stuttering problem. I think its a vacuum leak so off comes the intercooler and all the other crap.
