if you read that far back, then either you know what you need to do or you missed it.
i just don't have time to spoon feed you the info... you need to study this thread.
look at the post about the cross member and mounting point differences... auto 2nd gens are only compatible with certain s5 transmissions when using these straight stepped down bar adapters... otherwise there's other stuff you have to do that makes it worth it just to go ahead and get a s5 transmission.
it's all here in this thread! just read!

Having followed this article and not even started the job yet. I find myself worried that both of these methods seem slightly less than perfect espescially the crossmember adaptor method am I correct in that there is not side mounting at all in this method?
Is it possible to combine the two methods?
Unfortunately I dont have the welding experience to weld the original mounts from a donor car. Can anyone give experiences/testimonies on living with these conversions.
I just cant see how there can not be side effects with a highly modded car and the crossmember adaptor method?

Very nice thread. Wish I would have had all this info when I did my swap two years ago. I could have had it done in one day instead of two. I like your idea of the fabricated mount extensions but I also like the other way which was pulling off the mounts from a donor car. Both are sturdy. It just depends on how much time you want to spend. Either way you go it hardly seems that either would be half assed. Anyways, EXCELLENT thread. Should help ALOT of people.

Damn this thread is old. Anyway follow the tranny bracket instruction's to the tee i used this writeup to do my swap and everything is legit. The hardest part was installing the new pedal assembly other than that i did this swap in 2 day's have fun!

sorry this question has probably been asked a bunch of times in this thread. but what are all the parts you would need to swap into a manual? I have a 89 Auto that my parents just bought me.. this will probably be my first project on this car..any help will be appreciated. thanks.

God this is old.
Tranny (obvious)
Shifter with interior trim type stuff that goes around the shifter
Pedal Pack (need that 3rd pedal)
Clutch Master Slave Cylindar
Driveshaft
Manual Computer (I think? been a long time)
The Brackets mentioned in this thread or something similar
Your best bet, buy a wrecked donor car and put them side by side and do the swap

For a stock-ish car, using 1/4" thick flat iron is more than sufficient. I used 1/4" thick by 1 1/4" wide flat iron from Tractor Supply Company for my brackets. For the year that they were in use on my S4 GXL, I didn't notice any distortion at all. Also, this design should work with both S4 and S5 cars. For the record, V8kilr switched to 1/2" thick stuff when introducing nitrous and/or forced induction
