Question College Car

I'm going off to college soon and need a car to get to and fro. My ITR got stolen and have been driving my moms caddilac but would like to get back into it myself. First, I would get a 3rd gen, everyone says wait until you are done with school. I respect that, so i'm looking at 2nd Gens. Excuse me if this has become repetative, but is a 2nd Gen turbo that big of a problem driving daily? From what i've read some people say yah, some say no. Would it be an ok car for me?

I don't understand...didn't insurance cover the ITR theft?&nbsp I would recommend you get another Honda.

Perfect college car would be a CRX HF.

Mine’s a daily driver (155 miles/week just getting to and from work) and I have no complaints. Yeah it’s a bit heavy on gas, buy I’ve had a rotary turbo as a daily driver for over six years, so I’m used to it! Reliability is only an issue if you don’t maintain it properly and/or go silly on mods.

Since some of us may not know when to stop modding, what mods do you have?

If i spend about 10k on a turbo2, and not really mod it at all, should I be ok on daily driving it?

first off I express my deepest sorrow for the ITR. Just browse the ITR forum of honda-tech and you will see a new thread weekly of some punkass thugs stealing **** they don't want to pay for.

the t2 is not going to have the ITR reliabilty. It however will take care of you as long as you take care of it. I don't think it should be a big problem as a daily driver. Just don't get carried away with the mods. I think a s13 would be the perfect college car though.

Currently not a hell of a lot. Just a 3” into twin 2.5” catback, HKS pod filter, removed cat and removed emission controls. It runs about 8psi with no creep, so I haven’t bothered to install my DIY FCD yet. I’ll do a TID soon, but I’ll remove it if boost creep becomes a problem. I also need to finish off my heat shield and cold air duct (classic case of not practising what I preach!). I’m looking for a S5 turbo before I do much more; this is what I mean by not doing silly mods. I’ll make sure overboosting isn’t a problem before I complete the 3” exhaust. Prevention is better than cure, and much cheaper!

My FC would make a better college car if I spent more time studying and less time under my hood!

Cons- questionable reliability- mixed results, mine's been terrific execpt for the locked engine. No other probs.. just that biggie.
-bad mileage ($$)
-import parts are expensive.
For pure grunt N/A's are slow unless heavily modded
Not a lot of cargo/passenger space

Pros-
Nice damn car
TII's are fast
Always gets attention
N/A's can be found for REALLY cheap.
Great to drive.

Honda's are great cars, but insurance is creeping up due to high thefts...
My most practical recomendation would be a Sunfire or Cavalier- but really....
