Cold Start Woes

having cold start issues on my ‘86 GXL. Car starts first crank every time when warm, but when cold it takes 3-5 key turns to get it to start. Motor has good comp and otherwise the car runs and drives fine. Generally first key turn it shows no signs of life, second it’ll start and rev to 2k then die, and after that it’ll just start and be fine. Super weird. Any help would be appreciated

Is the green connector on the back of the water pump housing plugged in firmly? The ECU assumes the engine is warmed up if that connector isn't plugged in and doesn't apply warmup enrichment.

the one for the water temp sensor? Or the other little 2 pin green one (which is unplugged as I don’t know where it goes)

The one that looks like a Bosch injector connector, except green:

That is for the water temp sensor. I added the picture since your second description ("little 2 pin green one") might also describe the same thing.

cool; that one is pretty firmly installed on mine, but I did replace that connector since it was broken on mine, so may go back and check my wiring.
