maybe you have compression problem..as for the heating up sounds like you may have build it too tight..wrong end play....(front cover spacer ring) that may casue your problem..............if thats ok then check your injectors maybe they are leaky

you build the motor or had it built? bring it back to the shop and check your current compression. i know hard starts would be leaky injectors but maybe everything has to break in???

I have read here that it is pretty common for a rebuilt engine to have starting issues after just being rebuilt; it takes a while for the engine to build compression. You just gotta break it in, real nice and easy like.

I don't know about hot start issues; I had some once, and it turned out to be a faulty connection to my water thermo sensor. But I doubt that that is your problem. Search for hot starts on this forum to get some insight. It could be flooding a bit maybe? Check the injectors, although they may be new they could be leaking a bit perhaps?

Especially when its warm, metal expands when heated and your probably already-low compression goes even lower.

If its still hard to start cold, try squirting a little oil in the spark plug holes. If low compression (most likely do to reused housings) is the culprit, the oil should make it easier to start.

Until you get it broken in, you should just install a fuel cutoff switch to make your life a little easier.

BTW - what was causing it to overheat?

fixed it. it had no compression ( bad housing or apex seals. just replaced them both)
