Question Cold Start Assist.....

So what exactly does the cold start assist thingy do?
Also, depending on what it's been filled with, could it cause the motor to smoke when cold?
Thxs guys...

uhmm....the cold start injects coolant/water into the combustion chamber to increase compression when the tempterature is below 0. <== at least thats what the tank does.

The cold start (3k rpm warmup) is an emissions thing. its used to warm up the cat converters as fast as possible to increase their effectiveness to pass emissions.

In my '87 TII all the cold start assist did was completely empty into the motor one cold morning. I had to leave my car at work for a week before I was finally able to get it started again. Then it belched out a huge cloud of white smoke for about 15 minutes. I recommend not filling it.

I think I'm gonna kill mine off... maybe it's causeing some of my nasty smoke during warm-up (I hope, prolly not, but it's worth a shot...)

I removed mine and it's started EVERY time through TWO cold *** MN winters.... The system is basically a joke, extra weight.

What has to be done to remove the whole system? I don't even think mine's hooked up any more, so scrapping it is something I should do this weekend.
