Cold Air intake

I am about to put a cold air intake on my 86 NA this weekend and was thinking....why not put the new filter into a small heat shielded box ( alum. maybe) and use the orginal scoop intake that sits in front of the stock filter to force air into the new intake? Does this make sense or defeat the purpose? Seems like an easy fabrication that would jam a ton of air into the intake... comments please

I think you'll find that air is not forced through the stock duct. It is pulled via intake, so you'd be much better off fabricating the "box" and removing the strip under the hood between the hood and radiator support, or if you search, you'll see some suggestions as to where fresh air may be had.

I wish I could find the post of the guy who cut a hole in that side of the engine bay, made and alluminum box and sealed it. He had a tube that brought cold air from underneth the car into the box.

I thought iw as a great idea...I just don't have the ***** to do that to mine just yet.

His post was exactly what i had in mind, o was just trying to find an easier way.. that little stock intake scoop looked so tempting... but since it doesnt actually get "ram air" i may end up doing something like this. i really wanted to avoid cutting holes in the car, knowing me , i'd cut up something important
