Code 17, Oxygen Sensor

My 91 N/A recently developed a knocking noise. It then lost all power and couldn't keep itself running. As I was limping home the check engine light came on. The code ended up being 17 - Oxygen Sensor feedback system.

Can anyone elaborate on this? Could a bad oxygen sensor cause a major loss of power? Would a blown apex seal cause shitty combustion and freak out the oxygen sensor? Any input would be greatly appreciated, I'll do just about anything to avoid a rebuild.

While wierd, I think it's just coincidental. A bad 02 won't usually affect you in any way other than SHITTY gas mileage. Follow the usual "is my engine blown?" procedures and get back to us...
