clutch sticks

i did a s5 tii swap into my 88 gxl and i just hooked up the slave cylinder and started to bleed it. the clutch built pressure but sticks half way down, and when you pull it up, and push it down again, the first half feels like your pushing on air, and the you start to feel pressure. what could be causeing this?

thanks,
peter

Are you sure the clutch slave is fully bled?

Is it fully functional, as in are the seals in it good?

be sure to check the master cyl. fluid level when bleeding. when you bleed the system any air that comes out has to be replaced with fluid right? therefore the fluid in the master cyl. will go low and if u dont check it u might be sucking air into it the system by accident. hope it helps

Get a one man brake bleeding kit and put it on the Nipple of the slave cylinder.Make sure there is a bit of fluid already in the Bottle. Then give the Thing a Couple Pumps, and Crack the bleeder.Pump a couple more times, and crack. Then Push on the clutch with the Bleeder valve open and you will eventually see Bubbles coming out of the System. When you see no more Bubbles, than simply Tighten the bleeder..DONE!..(if that doesn't work then either your master or slave is "Ka-Put"!..the slave will leak at the pin that pushes the clutch fork. The master will leak internally,or at the part where the Pedal's Pin hits the Plunger,so it is hard to spot.)good luck,STYX.

If you're certain the clutch is fully bled, adjust the clutch pedal until it has a solid stroke. I had to extend the rod on the pedal all the way out to get it to feel right after I swapped in the turbo slave cylinder/trans/clutch on my car. I can only assume it is due to differences between my turbo pressure plate and my old NA one. Initially, the friction point was on the floor, but after some break in time, it's releasing similar to before.

Assuming that your clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder is in good working condition, there is a rubber line up on the firewall in the clutch hydraulic line that can cause these similar symptoms....twenty or so bucks from mazdatrix...
