Clutch start sensor "fix"

So I got tired of my car starting only when it wanted too. Sometimes I would have to hold the key to start and slam down the clutch for the stupid clutch sensor to work. Yes I know I should have just replaced it and it can start in gear and blah, blah, blah... But long story short I figured this might help someone else with the same issue for no cost to fix. Warning always start your car in neutral whether your clutch is in or not!

So this is what I did:
Struggled under the dash to get the 2-10mm bolts out and fish out the sensor

Next carefully pulled the wires out of the clip

Cut one wire after carefully pulling off the the male part and attached the male part to the cutoff end of the wire

Stuck it back in the plug

And shazzam! A nice neat jumper is made! No more issues and no more worries of being stranded because of the sensor.

Hope this can help someone out there. I know it's not the more glorious fix, or is that hard to figure out but I figured this could help.

Just fix the switch. Pretty simple.

yeah its a good mod! the clutch switch is just for the US market anyways, the rest of the world doesn't have the switch.

Thanx! The car cranks over way better now too... Weird... But it seems like it cranks over faster than it did before and starts right up. Beings that I'm the ONLY one who drives my car and I ALWAYS park in neutral and check before starting I'm not worried about the precautions.

if you REALLY want to get sneaky, hide a momentary switch somewhere.

I wanted to do it a bit cleaner than tape... And I used the original connectors. Just pried one open and put the cut wire in and reclamped it. It clips right in the factory plug so it's clean and unseen. (chuckle back)

hell i don't even chop up the car to do it, just put 2 spade connectors on a wire and unplug it and place the jumper on it.

ghetto but whatever, sometimes i need to move cars and i'm the only one here, makes life easier using the starter to move the car.

100% reversible in about 10 seconds.

Ya,that switch is a real pain to get to,and I ended up with bloody knuckles getting to one...I hate that!
Jumpering it at the harness and leaving the switch on the car is the way I went.It takes a couple seconds.

Mine's been jumpered for the last 10 years. Sometimes I want to start the car in neutral, and I pressing the clutch pedal is pointless.

Yea it's force of habit, I still push in the clutch even though I start it in neutral...

The car didn't go anywhere but it scared the living Hell out of me!.I thought I was a Goner!

there is this thing too Flyin' Miata : Engine/Drivetrain : Transmission : Clutch switch override, 1990-2005

it will work because every US bound mazda from mid 87 uses the same switch.

Thats pretty cool. I could just make that, it's pretty simple. But pulling the sensor out and reinstalling it isn't something I'm up for haha! It's a pain in the a** to get up in there

i have also seen plenty of thrust bearings munched with tons of slack due to riding the clutch and starting the car cold with no lubrication on that bearing.

but how many miles does it take to wear it out?
cars go tens of thousands of miles of daily, some over 100k, on original clutches and bearing

for a recreational use vehicle I dont think this would ever happen, its not YOU who would start it in gear, its that time you have someone else do it for whatever reason and forget to tell them when it will be a issue
