Clutch Safety Switch + wiring

Hey guys, got a problem here. Race day is coming up and my car is almost ready to pass tech. All thats left is this stupid clutch switch. I can start the car regardless of whether the clutch is in or not. I checked under by the pedal and everything is plugged in then goes into a large taped harness. Does this mean the switch itself is bad? Is there anyway I can test voltage of those 2 wires to confirm its not working? Or are there other wires somewhere else that could be not connected correctly? I guess I could try lying and saying these cars didnt have any from the factory lol, but that would be if worst came to worst.

Also underneath by the transmission there are 2 connnecter plugs and 2 other wires that come off the main harness. I think one is for reverse lights and maybe 5th gear, but what are the other ones for?

I tried searching but I couldn't find a definate answer.

Thanks a bunch

Ryan

Ok, ive been going through the fsm wiring diagram, and it appears that this switch is just that, a switch lol. So meaning if its all plugged in and not jumpered in any way, should I just go ahead and order a new one?

p.s. i was curious about the wires on the trans

but as far as your neutral safty switch, you could ether, one: remove it and wire the two wires togather. as long as you removed all evidance of it being there, and the tech inspector doesnt know better, then no worries. or you could first use a multi meter or test light to check if it is working properly, and replace if needed. mine doesnt work ether. no worries

It's right next to the top of the clutch pedal, between the pedal and the body (as opposed the brake). However, 1986 cars did not come with this item. If yours was made in '86 (while still of course being an '87 model) it might not have been put on at the factory.
But this is just speculation, of course.

Is it still hooked up? A previous owner may have bypassed it. you might want to check it using an ohmmetre... that's about all I can come up with right now.

The best answer I can give you is this:
put the transmission in reverse and turn on the ignition, if the back-up lights come on the wires are hooked up correctly, if not swith them.
