Clutch Question

So my question is this.. If the S4 and S5 transmissions are interchangeable how do I determine between getting an S4 or S5 clutch kit? If they are swappable does it matter which I use? Do I need the kit to match the trans or the engine and if the trans how do I determine which trans I have? Thanks for any help

flywheel counterweight should match engine(s4 or s5) pressureplate and disk should match trans type (na t2)

ok got ya, but when choosing a clutch kit from RX7 world or Mazdatrix it gives me the option of 86-88 non turbo or 89-91 non turbo.

What's the difference?

well lets see ,

Your car is a 1990 NA

therefore you would want the one for your year so get the one that says 89-91 non-turbo.

I honestly don't know.

It sounded like you didn't know what tranny you had in your car. Some people are simple and you just have to give it to them on their terms. LOL

If it were me I would give mazdatrix a call monday morning.

you should use the clutch kit to match the engine its a common miss conception. im sure there is probably no difference in the two kits. however the s5 engine did produce more hp. so i would get the s5 clutch kit because they may have made the pressure plate heavier for that reason. but in the end they will probably both fit on and both work.

Go with a S5 kit as the throwout bearing and fork differs from a S4, at least from the factory. Actually the factory disc and pp are also different from the factory, but aftermarket carries the same designation for both S4 & S5.
Clutch Fork
84-88 N/T 16-5200-N204
89-92 N/T 16-5200-N302
Release Bearing
83-88 16-5100-FE84
89-92 16-510C-G561
