Clutch Problems

As part of my drivetrain swap I put a T2 flywheel, clutch, tranny and everything back onto my already swapped T2 motor. After putting it all back together and replacing the master and slave cylinder the clutch seemed to lack pressure. I've bled the clutch to no end and it feels like it's almost got the right amount of pressure but still won't go in any gears when the car is running. If I start the car in first and hold the clutch down the car will inch forward, if I let up slightly it lunges, any thoughts on what to check next?

Did you use a T2 Slave cylinder? There is a difference and you need to use the correct one.

^ +1. Check slave cylinder/fork motion if it is a TII slave.

You can also get under the transmission, and pull the inspection cover from the bottom of the bell housing. Have someone push the clutch pedal, and check motion against the pressure plate fingers.

I have the feeling you are using the N/A slave.which will not work on the TII application.

I'm 90% sure it's the T2 slave. I bought a new one and it was about 2 inches longer then my old one, any tell tale signs to be positive it's the T2 slave?

Reading your post again the pilot bearing would be my next choice of things that may be wrong.

What pressure plate did you use? I bet all it's the wrong height.

What series is the clutch for, what series is your transmission?

I know my S5 TII trans works just fine with me S4TII clutch but I have heard before that going the other way would cause some problems. I don't know what the problem is or if its really true.

It's hard to say, I got it all used, from what I was told it's an S5 tranny and an S5 clutch kit.

You may want to pop off the pressure plate and verify that the measurement from the flywheel disk to the pressure plate perch is correct. The TII flywheel is not perfectly flat if I recall.

And I asked what the difference was...if you say A is longer than B you say by how much. A unit of measurement would be nice.

Obviously the throwout bearing is too tall or the pressure plate is too tall but unless the OP has a stock unit for comparison telling him to measure this or that won't help.

S4 and S5 OEM throwout bearings have different PNs (I have no idea if the physical difference matters somehow, or if there even is one), but look at the aftermarket kits in that Mazdatrix link. They're listed as '86-'92, so the same bearing is being used for all TIIs. If you go to SPEC's site, it's the same thing: '86-'92. The bearing heights can't be different if it's a universal fit. Same goes for the p-plate.

"shouldn't"

The problem is the clutch won't disengage. How far can you push on the clutch pedal before you feel resistance from the pressure plate springs?
