Clutch problem

Okay so i have a 87 Turbo 2
the issue is that the clutch releases wayy late and im not sure hot to adjust it when i go online it says there is a nut on the back of the pedal..
I tried to adjust the nut but felt like it was going to break something.

Is there another way?
or was it that but i just gotta stop being a puss?
Also above it there is a little black box with a white tube, when you push the clutch in it pushes the tube inside the Box my clutch is about half a cm away from the tube when not touching it.
Should my clutch pedal be flush with this tube??

I have looked all around cant find it anywhere sorry if im repeating..

Thank you for any help if there can be any!

Ben

Black box with white tube?..It is a Clutch safety switch.(interlock).
It is supposed to work like this:You press on your clutch when you start the car.,If you don't you can't start the car.It is like a safety switch so you don't start the car in gear and have it Drive over someone!

second gen's do NOT have a clutch safty switch, like most cars do. you can start a rotary with or without the clutch in, also the second gens have a hydrolic clutch system, there are no adjustments for your problem, clutch is on it way out the door it sounds, replace it.

IF your car has a facotry shift light on the tack that black box is for that system, use's the black box to know when you have pressed the clutch, the car also knows about how many rps/ mph ratio to get an idea of what gear your in, this is how the system knows your in to low of a gear for "normal" driving.

Try it, go to your car, dont push in the clutch. it will start(providing its not in gear). there are many threads on this. and yes there is an adjust ment nut on the clutch pedal, but that isnt going to fix a worn out clutch.

Maybe yours has been bypassed, but they do have a clutch safety switch from the factory that will NOT allow the starter to be activated unless the clutch pedal is depressed.

There is no adjustment it is a hydralic clutch. If it is high then either you are nearly out of fluid or you are in need of a clutch.

I have messed with a few rx7's (Looking for a turbo, rather than swaping my NA) all of them s4's. and all of them have started with out pressing the clutch. As my car is bone stock outside of the braided SS clutch cable I added when changed out master/slave, I assumed they didnt not add it to the 7's for some resason. Also I remeber hearing in some of the fourm's that starting the car with or with out the clutch might change how the cold weather assist start up gizmo works/acts or somthing to that effect. Im not positive on that, im looking for the fourms now. How ever many apologies if the info i posted was incorrect, I am currently re-educating myself on the clutch system, when I put in a new clutch and hydrolics i thought I had looked into every aspect of it, gess not.

There is a adjustment for the free play on the clutch pedal though. (will not fix a worn clutch disc though)

Stock clutches catch higher than most aftermarket.

On my S4 i dont need the clutch pedal pushed in to start it. On my old S5 the clutch had to be pushed in.

I just had my engine out, and my clutch has plenty of meat on it.

Worn disc is bullshit, the stock Mazda pressure plate releases close to the top of the pedal travel as Felix said. There is a lock nut on the pedal assembly you can loosen and pull the piston back with.

I had a friend measure slave cylinder travel against the fork and adjusted the travel to 3/4 of an inch, and that put my clutch grab at roughly 3/4 pedal travel.

Clutch plate being worn has totally different symtoms than you describe.

Felix,
As I stated there is no adjustment for hydraulic clutches. Yes you can play with pedal height and freeplay. Should have made that clear in my first post. I have replaced far too many clutches from someone adjusting the pedal rod incorrectly.

Ben,
Maybe a silly question but did you check your fluid levels? If low squeeze the slave boot to see if there is fluid in it, if so, overhaul or renew.
Check master for leak by looking at it from inside the car, fluid draining down the fire wall, overhaul or renew.
Will the clutch pedal stay to the floor if you hold it there for a while? If so overhaul or renew the master.

Has fluid
Clutch is new
Master and slave are new
It was the adjustment screw it was all the way out so it just had alot of play i sat there and adjust then felt adjusted then felt and now it feels great and catches better also this is my first hydraulic clutch and im not used to it yet its a bit different.

Thank you everyone for you help oh and my car wont start unless i have the clutch pedal pushed in.
