Question clutch master cylinder (new or rebuild)

hi,

Ok, I have an 1990 fc and the clutch fluid is leaking inside the car. So do I need a new clutch master cylinder or can I just rebuild the old one.

You could also try your local auto parts store. The store near me had one in stock, that was nice.

Just buy the complete unit, in my experience it is only slightly more expensive and saves you a LOT of time and trouble of having to rebuild the stock one.

i rebuilt mine for $10, got the kit at O'Rilley auto parts, and they had it in stock

I rebuilt both the slave and the master. Only took a little longer than replacing and the total cost was just over $20.

I rebuilt the master cyclinder for $10 and bought a new slave for $30, both in stock at Napa Auto

yep the kit cost me under 15 with tax, and the cheapest brand new price i could find around was about 50 dollars.

however rebuild kits dont allways work so well..

id pull the old one apart clean it up and check and see if theres any rust inside or score marks inside where the piston travels..... if its really bad in there then the new parts wont make up for the damage inside.

I just ordered a Master and Slave cyclinder from theNOPI site. Got both of them (Tokico), including shipping, for less than just the master locally!

NOPI has good prices on those parts... however sometimes you have to wait for them to order them. I would recommend doing what you're doing... replace them; not rebuild. As cheap as they are, you might as well just replace them.
