clutch making a click noise

this is pretty wierd. i was just driving normally then came to a stop light. on green, i clutched and started driving but i heard a "click" when i step on the clutch. the sound most resembles when you push on a can of soda. everytime i step on the clutch around 1/4 way, it would make that noise. i even thought there was a can under my clutch so i pulled over to check it out. nothing was in the way. the clutch felt normal and the drive was normal, about 15 minutes later, that sound disappeared. what would be the cause of that?

whoa, dude, this just happened to me 5 minutes ago. Turned out to be the clutch safety switch. Put your car in neutral. Don't press in the clutch. Start your car. If your car starts, your switch it busted.

Now look at the clutch pedal. The back of it will have a hole with a button sticking through it. On the ground underneath you'll see the broken remains of the rest of the button. The clutch pedal should be pushing this button when the clutch is out. Without the rest of the plastic that broke it off, it isn't pressing the button anymore.

The click is from the pedal pushing against the side of the button, then suddenly snapping free when you press it.

your probably right. i am able to start my car without the clutch being in for like 2 years now. although i still start the car with the clutch in anyways. its 3 AM right now, i wont have time to check it out till later on when i wake up.

if the switch is broken, does it matter if i get it fixed or not? it doesnt really seem to affect anything....

I don't think anything will happen if you don't replace it, it'll just be another dead piece that doesn't get fixed until you decide too.
