clutch fluid leak, what gives?

hello there

So I took my car in to the trans place one morning because I lost all my clutch fluid. This happened to happen right after the first really cold day of the year. Last year, on the first really cold day of the year, I lost all my clutch fluid, too, but since I decided it needed a major overhaul I had it sit in winter. I'm thinking this is a problem related to cold weather.

So this is my first winter with this car, after having the trans replaced last winter and a new slave clutch cylinder installed.

Anyway, like i said, I had all my clutch fluid go out, I was leaving for lunch at work. I don't know how fast of a leak it was, I didn't see any puddles or anything under the car, but there may have been one in my dirt alley where I parked overnight. But the clutch did get me to work, so ..

So I poured brake fluid into the clutch reservoir, drove it down a street towards the trans place and before long the clutch wasn't engaging again. Maybe this is because I didn't pump the fluid through and there was air in the lines when I added fluid. Anyway, so I barely got to the trans place and they can't seem to be able to find the leak. Usually these guys have been pretty competent in the past. Anyone have any experience tracking down tricky clutch fluid leaks, especially those that may occur when it gets cold out?

They're telling me that he's been driving it every so often and it hasn't leaked, and that the clutch is a little goofy in the morning but other than that has no problems. So I can take it like that, or they can try to replace the master cylinder.

What say you all!

Have you bled the master and line? If not, you can pour all the fluid you want in there, it isn't going to do ****.

Now, how did all the fluid go away? You need to find that out. It isn't just going to disappear, that's a closed system. It either leaked out of the master and all over your drivers side frame rail, out the slave and all over the tranny, or out the hose where it could leak everywhere else.

i COULD also leak in from the piston area INTO the car, that happened with mine...check for fluid around the clutch pedal shaft...

At the time my clutch master quit the parts store only had a rebiuld kit. I polished the bore, put in new rubber, bled the air and drove it another year.
