cluster gauge dead.

By that I mean that everything isn't working on the cluster. From fuel, boost, rpm and even speed. Everything else works though, I can turn on the car and everything else electrical works... This morning I took apart the cluster and found that everything was still connected... Could it just be fuses blown?

I checked the FSM for troubleshooting and all I dug up was individual problems. So something like if my speedometer died then its the sensor and the cable, if it was the tach then the Meter fuse is blown, for fuel its faulty grounding or Meter fuse is blown and the same goes for temp. Really weird.

All the gauges except the speedo are electric, covered by the METER fuse.
The speedo is mechanical.

I can see the speedo alone dying or all the other gauges dying...but can't really imagine what would take them all out at once.

So could it be that the speedo isn't going because of the rpm not moving? I'm checking the fuses right now.

What is the amp rating of the replacement meter fuse. Needs to be 7.5 amps.

When you say you turned the car on and other electrical stuff worked did you turn the engine on or did you just turn the key to on? Or both?

I just turned the key so that everything electrical would come on. Never turned the car on.

With the key to on do the wipers and turn signals work?

You have a short to ground and the Meter fuse powers the most items of all the interior fuses so you have your work cut out for you in trying to track down this short.

EDIT:

The fuse powers the alternator warning light relay that is found in the CPU, the cooling fan control unit found on turbos and autos only, gauges and warning system, the back up light switch, blower motor for a/c and heater, clock and warning lights (idiot lights in dash), light warning unit in cluster, auto adjust suspension, cruise control, and the factory alarm system. So to figure out which item is causing the trouble you need to disconnect one of these items and place a new 7.5 amp fuse back into the fuse box and turn the key to on and see if if it blows or not. If the fuse does not blow then you have found your culprit. If it does blow then you need to move on down the list of the items mentioned and do the same thing until you found the problemed item. This will likely take a number of fuses but the only alternative is to remove all the items but one and see if the fuse blows or not and if not then reconnect the second item and repeat.

From observing posters who have the same problem most of them found that the culprit was the back-up light switch. Locate connector FE-02 which is located very close to the Main relay and it's a six wire plug. Disconnect this plug and replace Meter fuse, turn key to on and see if it blows or not. The plug to be disconnected has the following wires. Black/White, Red/Green, Black/Blue, Yellow/Red, Black/Yellow and Green/Black.
